A Year Ago Today

One year ago today, Sarah Palin announced that she was going to resign from the governorship on July 26. It was a shocker to everyone on both the left and the right. No one saw it coming.

I'll admit that I was shocked myself when I heard the news. When Sarah had announced her resignation live, I was with my parents and brother at the location of my mom's business, Creative Hands. My brother, dad and I were working on a part of the building that hadn't been touched since renovations began just over a year before. So of course I was sheltered from the news cycle most of that day.

When we finally got home and I checked my email, I found a message in my inbox from Team Sarah, with whom I've been a member for just over a year now. When I opened that email and read the first paragraph, I felt like I had been kicked in the gut. I was shocked by the news and I literally shouted, "WHAT?!?!?!," so that my parents heard me all the way downstairs.

I wasn't able to see the video footage until that night when my parents and I came across FOX News and they showed the footage. At first I started crying because I was very confused and didn't know what to think.

When I finally got another chance to watch the footage again online, I watched it twice until I understood what was going on. I began to accept the reality and look on the bright side. Sarah was doing this because she felt it was unfair to use state dollars to defend herself and her staff. Not much was being accomplished for Alaska and Sarah and her administration knew it.

Sarah felt it best to step aside and do what she did after resigning from her post in the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission: affect change in other areas. A year later, we can certainly say that Sarah has done just that. She has endorsed and campaigned for candidates that she, along with the rest of us, believes can best serve our country. She has written a memoir, Going Rogue that is a hit among supporters and we look forward to her next book, America By Heart.
You can view the footage of Sarah's Resignation announcement on Palin TV.

God Bless Sarah, her family and God Bless the USA, the greatest country on earth!
